Parental Experiences
A few weeks ago I started to teach my children Beke (6) and Jana (10) Go. We always play at bedtime instead of reading a book. One day I explained the concept of atari. I thought it very pedagogical to introduce the term “atari” by shouting it together with my children very loud each time there was an atari on the board. I finished the lesson with some easy problems which involved ataris, so we practised shouting quite a lot.
A few minutes later my wife Dörte came to say good night to Beke. Of course she had heard the atari-shouts. She asked Beke what she had learned, and Beke answered: “Tonight we have learned arabi!”
