Many people have commented on the gross amount of plastic materials, presumably being thrown away at the bar and food service, and because go players are also affected by environmental problem, I bring up the subject of recycling. I don’t think I have to persuade anyone that recycling is sound policy, but frequently we find ourselves in situations where such “sound” policies are not recognized. So I suggest that planners of future go congresses who are of course interested in such sound environmental policies, require that institutions or hotels where the congress is held use reusable and/or biodegradable materials in eating utensils. Understandably environmental policy is not the first thing on congress planners’ minds, I feel it should be a
consideration “If it is not asked it will never be...” Such wanton waste and burning of such materials is not life sustaining and, it would seem, consistent with go intellect, or as “a way of life” as is said.
