Biking in the Colli Euganei

What to do in the area around Abano Terme if you don't want to visit Venice or Padova. Rent a bike and go biking. We made a wonderful trip through the Colli Euganei.

Two things you need most are water and a bike. We rented a mountain bike in Montegrotto (at Brombin, Via Roma, 10 , tel. 79 34 91 for 12000 lire a day). We forgot the water but you are warned!

It was an amazing day. We saw a lot of beautiful houses, churches and views. First we went to Monteortone. In 1428 the holy virgin appeared there. We looked around but we only saw a big old building. After that, we went to Praglia, also an old abbey (founded in 1080). In Luvigliano you can buy a drink. We went into the hills, to Giona. Frank wanted to try his gears, 21 of them. If you are not used to hills, like me, don't do this. Take the warning signs saying 15 or 20 % really serious or see at as a challenge. I walked most of the time. Although there were beautiful views over the valley, we decided not to take too many of this kind of roads any more. Walking with a bike makes you very tired.

Passing little villages make you feel in Italiana. This is what you see in the tourist books about Italy. Two villages you must visit are Arqua' Petrarca and Monselice. Both have a beautiful centre of old houses.

At last two other things you need on your trip are a cap and sun cream.
