So 1992 was the last Liar Dice championship year, when Jan Rüten-Budde (D) proved himself the best liar.
This year 26 people sat down with five sets of poker dice, and three go stones each, to represent lives. From time to time the sound of a dog barking could be heard. The first player on each table to lose all three lives is allowed one extra one, called the “dog’s life.” But to get it, he or she has to stand up and bark. Convincing barkers received a round of applause.
Eventually there was a final of ten players, two from each table. Would Jan win again? He reached the last three remaining players, but then lost his last life. Desmond Cann (GB) proved himself to be the most dishonest player with Emma Marchant (GB) the runner-up.
What is this man Roads talking about? Well, if you have never player Liar Dice, ask some of the British players to teach you. The Dutch are quite good at it too, I am sorry to have to admit. If you have an honest face and a devious nature, perhaps in 2000… …?
(Francis Roads)
