Watching Fishes

On Saturday we went to Padova. Our main interest was to get a fine meal, but as it was the time of siesta, all the restaurants were closed. So we went through the old town centre. We discovered that the centre was surrounded by a small river. During our walk we crossed many bridges. We rested on them and looked into the water. You should know that siesta time is best for watching fishes. The sun stands at its highest point and the light hits the surface of the river in at nearly 90 degrees. So the amount of reflection is low.

Watching fishes is quite a good way to relax from your go games and to prepare for the ones on the next days. If you see how these trout use all their power to withstand the streaming river, you can learn to treat your opponent in a more steady way. Just stay calm and wait for the chance to get some points. It surely will come. Of course we didn't only watch fishes during our time in Padova. There were churches with beautiful paintings inside, small streets and large piazzas with many fascinating buildings. But if you want to get from one place to another you have to cross another bridge. Time to watch fishes again.

Later when the sun stood not that high any more, lots of people got out of the houses and crowded the streets. We went into a street cafe and relaxed with some cold refreshments, watching the people passing by. In the evening we went to a Chinese restaurant. This had a very special floor. It was made of glass. Under the glass there was a basin with gold fishes. So we could enjoy our meal watching fishes that were swimming just below our table and chairs. The Chinese restaurant is called Shanghai and located at Via Marsala, 618 in Padova, Tel.: 0 49 - 65 29 10.
