Memories to go congress, part I
It was 1985 when I first attended a go congress in Terschelling/NL. As an eager 2 Kyu I waited for the beginning of the first round with an anxious mind. The round started, I was sitting at the go board. 10 minutes, 20 minutes… At the next go board, also Dr. Heine was waiting for his opponent. After waiting all 40 minutes long we went to the organizers and asked if the pairing could be changed that me and Dr. Heine played each other and our opponents - not yet arrived - well meet each other. Surprisingly, that was OK.
Well, after 59 minutes, our supposed opponents arrived (you lose the game if you are 60 minutes late) I and Dr. Heine were in a hard fight in the middle game already. These two persons looked at the pairing list and laughed in disbelief: "What, we are paired against each other? We are from the same club and even very close friends!"
What can I say, those French deserved it.
