Subject: European Go Congress
Dear go friends,
please help me to spread this information to go players in
your countries and clubs!
The European Go Congress in Sweden is coming up soon now,
most relevant information is found on the EGC website,
http://egc2008.eu . The congress is going to be well
attended, there are at the moment 887 people from 39
different countries registered in total, 705 to play in the
tournaments:

going to have at least 21 professionals attending:

will be several interesting side events, such as the
Symposium on go history and go in art and literature:

and computer go: http://www.computer-go.info/egc2008/ .
The prize fund in the EGC is going to be at least 15 000
euro (http://egc2008.eu/en/events/tournaments.php ), the
weekend tournament is sponsored by Pandanet, the pairgo
event is sponsored by the Japanese pairgo association and
special emphasis is also given to the team tournament, with
national or other geographical teams.

My message now is that it's still not too late to register
for the EGC, there is plenty of space in our venues and I
believe that the more participants we are, the more fun we
will have. However it is going to get trickier now to find
accommodation in Leksand during the congress weeks, so here
is some advice for those who want to come but haven't
registered yet. The EGC organisers still have some lodging
places left in our control, in particular some double rooms
in Leksand Guest House:

floor space for sleeping bags:

other accommodation preferences, we will try to help you as
far as possible if you register and specify what kind of
accommodation you are looking for. Generally there are more
options left for the second congress week.
You are also well advised to book tickets in advance for the
wednesday- and weekend excursions if you want to take part,
since the total number of places is fixed and may run out.
